Fearless Friday – 5 Strategies for a Fearless Career and Life

Each week I will bring you resources to help you become more fearless. Put simply, the courage to act – that’s fearlessness, and knowing how to do that will strengthen your career and life. Click on the links to find out more.

  1. Monitor your thinking.

We spend a great deal of our time in negative thinking. The critic is alive and well, and we frequently allow that judge to take control of our lives, thus limiting our ability to fully be authentic. Be more observant about the circumstances that set off the negative thinking, and turn these thoughts around. When you hear negativity, reframe to be a more positive statement. In due course, this will become the norm, and the negative voice will have less power over you.

  1. Make an action plan.

We are at the beginning of another year. A time when people are ready to set new goals. But not all goals have an action plan attached. My acronym for goals is Great Opportunities for Accelerating Leadership. You may not be in leadership, but we are all leaders of our own lives. Leaders at the top of their game establish a clear vision of what they want to achieve, and plan accordingly. Take time to think, reflect, get advice, and input from others, and prioritize the actions you will take to get you where you want to go.

  1. Gather your team.

Do you have good advisors, coaches, allies who will go to bat for you when you need them?  Do they support you, champion you, and help you get to the finish line? If not, then build yourself a winning team by being strategic in your network activities. Define the people you want to help you learn, grow and achieve. Be an influencer who inspires and encourages others. We are only as strong as the people we have around us.

  1. Recall and relive past successes.

Too many times we focus on the failures of our lives. We forget that we have had much success too. When you look back over your history, find the markers of success along the way. It can be anything you want and doesn’t always include money and status. Friendships, creative projects, family, caring, times when you went above and beyond. We all have something we can be proud of.

  1. Practice self-care.

In this age of uncertainty and redefining our lives, and feeling isolated, self-care becomes a priority that is frequently overlooked. Are you getting enough exercise? Eating nutritiously? Going outside to enjoy nature? Taking time to rest away from the digital life. Getting proper sleep? All of this and more is self-care, and if you are an achieving person, it’s essential to give yourself time to be, rather than do.
